As the seasons come and go, there is always something new to look forward to in each month in Italy.
The beginning of September to the end of November, everyone looks forward to Funghi also known as mushrooms. Wild mushrooms.
Here at the Mercato, you can find every kind of mushroom imaginable. Stacked in crates, upon crates. All ranging from sizes, flavors, and prices.
Most Americans, probably wouldn't think it is safe to eat wild mushrooms; however, not to worry, the mushrooms that one finds in the grassy hillsides in Northern Italy are checked throughly from a doctor. If it passes the test, than you can eat them. The recipes for mushrooms are endless.. Risotto con Funghi is one of my favorites..
My favorite thus far is the Chiodini Mushroom. My father in law just picked over 5 kilos of wild mushrooms, yesterday. I am sure by the end of the month, I will have some new favorites.
